Because I feel that my creativity, my empathy, and my social skills will vanish progressively if I’m going to spend my evenings in front of the TV.

Achieving this goal will create more time for me, time that I could spend wiser.

I could read more. I could sleep more. I could develop a hobby.

I will feel content and happy.

I believe that once I achieved this goal I can do more of what I love to do and I’ll accomplish more of what’s important to me.

My daughter will avoid my calls; I’ll be obese and spend most of my time in front of the TV, without friends.

15 In what ways is this goal challenging?
It will mean a different approach to my life; it will mean that I have to break this routine that is actually VERY entertaining and replace it with something else, something that is at least as entertaining as watching my favorite TV show.
16 Describe exactly what will be involved in achieving this goal.
Important note: Netflix is my only source of television. I do not have cable TV and I gave up going to the movie theater. 1. I will review my Netflix queue and keep only 4 & 5 stars movies; 2. Over the next 3 months, I will reduce my Netflix plan from “4 DVDs out at-a-time” to “1 DVD out at-a-time”; 3. I will start reading fiction again until I will be able to read at least for 2 hours every evening; 4. I will join a book club.
17 Exactly how will you know that you are making progress toward achieving this goal?
1. By looking at my Netflix queue and account; 2. I will keep the book receipt from the library; 3. I will measure the time I am spending reading and write it down; 4. I will keep a diary of the book club meetings.
18 How do you plan to pace yourself?
I plan to feel comfortable with this new routine no later than January 31, 2010. I feel that 3 months should be sufficient to (re)learn the habit of reading.
19 What obstacles are you likely to encounter as you move toward this goal?
Since the only disposable time that I have is in the evening, after my daughter goes to bed, sometimes I might feel too tired to read.
20 For each obstacle, how do you plan to deal effectively with that obstacle?
I plan to keep ready a non-fiction book instead of a fiction one for such moments when I feel too tired to read.
21 If you notice you are slipping, what effective action will you take?
I let everybody on the Linkup Goal System know about it and I'll expect to be cheered back on track.
22 Is there a reward you plan to give yourself when you achieve this goal? If so, describe the reward and how you will feel about receiving it.
I plan to reward myself with an electronic book reader the sort of Kindle or Nook. I’ll certainly feel great that I have a new toy to play with!
