Why is this goal important?
|
|
It's a lifelong goal that has been sitting in the background since I was 18. At 18, I knew I wanted to study psych, but was discouraged because I didn't have my parents' support. Life took control of me for years. Now I have taken the control back and I am finally able to work towards that degree.

How is this goal related to the larger meaning and purpose of your life?

I'm interested in how and why people do things. And, I'm interested in learning how I can be of service in helping others achieve their goals.

What will achieving this goal will accomplish for you and for your life?
|
|
It will be a huge check mark on my life's "to do" list. Once I have the degree, I will finally be closer to authenticity than I have been previously in my life.

|
It will open doors that have previously been closed to me. I will no longer be able to tell myself that I'm not worthy or not capable of reaching my goals.

I think I will feel a huge sense of accomplishment. This is something I've talked about always. So, finally reaching this goal will make me feel like I have finally put myself first on my own priority list.

Previously, I supported myself by having a "job". Now, in working trowards this goal, and eventually reaching it, my life will be better because I won't be surviving, I'll be doing something that's in line with who I am and what I feel passionate about.

As previously stated - by putting my efforts into something that is meaning ful for me, I will feel better about myself in general - as opposed to continuing to support myself by having a "job."

I'm not completely clear where this will take me. Not sure what my other goals are right now. I have about 4 more years of school to reach completion of the masters degree, so I'm not thinking any further ahead than that right now.

If you don't achieve this goal, how will you feel about yourself?

|
It depends on why I don't achieve the goal. If I choose to drop out of school and not complete the degree, I'll probably always want to go back and finish. If the circumstances are out of my control, I suppose I'll have to deal with them accept my situation.

Again, this would depend on the circumstances that keep me from achieving the goal.

|
|
I have been out of school for more than 30 years. Learning how to study and learn is challenging. Attending classes with very young people is challenging. Not getting the best grade int he class is challenging. I'm sure this is why people my age don't go back to school -- it's too hard!

|
Sticking with school, attending classes regularly, giving each class my full effort, deciding on a graduate program. Sticking with the program.

That's the beauty of school - there are semesters and grades. One knows how one is doing as time goes by and one marks time by the semesters. I can check the units off as I go.

How do you plan to pace yourself?
|
|
12 units a semester for fall and spring. 6 units in the summer. So far, this is working well.

|
Not doing well in a particular class - which is happening now. At times, I just want to quit, but I won't. Instead, I have to come up with a strategy to learn the subjects that are difficult for me.
